Michael Szoenyi:
Rheinfall waterfall, Switzerland2006
» Description
Rheinfall waterfall, Switzerland. This waterfall is on the River Rhine, on the border between the Swiss cantons of Zurich and Schaffhausen. A volume of 700 cubic metres of water per second flows over the falls, making them the largest by volume in Europe though they are only 23 metres tall. It is a popular tourist attraction. The waterfall has formed as the river erodes a softer rock below a rim of harder Malm limestone. The tourist town of Neuhausen am Rheinfall surrounds the waterfall.
