The silhouettes of two hot-air balloons hover above the tiers of the Olympic Stadium in Munich, Friday, 28 October 2005. The stadium, built in 1972, is one of 77 landmarks of which seven are to be nominated as the new wonders of the world. Further German landmarks on the list are the 'Deutsche Museum in Munich', Chateau Neuschwanstein, the cathedrals of Aachen and Cologne as well as the so-called Gloetzschtal bridge in the Vogtland region. The announcement of the seven wonder of the world will take place on 01 January 2007 via the internet where people from around the world will have placed a vote for their favourite landmark. The internet vote was initiated by the Swiss filmmaker and author Bernhard Weber.
