Aurora watching, time-exposure image2008
» Description
Aurora watching. Time-exposure image of an aurora watcher by a fire, observing an auroral display in the northern hemisphere. The aurora borealis (northern lights) is an atmospheric phenomenon that appears as shimmering bands of coloured light in the sky at high latitudes. It occurs when the particles of the solar wind are directed towards the Earth's magnetic poles and collide with atoms in the upper atmosphere, emitting light. Photographed in Alaska.
