An ancient Buddha statue carved in solid granite (15 meters high), which attract many devotees during days of religious significance, seen in Polonnaruwa (216 km northeast of Colombo) Tuesday, 21 June 2005. Built during the reign of King Parakramabahu in 11th-12th century AD at the Gal Viharaya Polonnaruwa these are classic examples of ancient craftmanship of the Sri Lankans. EPA/M.A.PUSHPA KUMARA
